By the Medium is a cultural media platform that amplifies the artistry and legacy of the global Black diaspora. We believe every medium of art is a vehicle for storytelling and an expression of our collective narrative.

We are committed to shaping a new renaissance by strengthening the Black creative economy and fostering a community that values art and the dialogue it inspires. Through editorial content, elevated events and strategic partnerships, we aim to cultivate a creative ecosystem that advances the Black diaspora.


Guided by the principle of self-determination, “Kujichagulia,” By the Medium seeks to unite the global diaspora through art and storytelling. Our mantra; Our Art. Our Stories. Our Legacy.’ is a declaration to define ourselves, to preserve our narratives, and to build a legacy that endures across generations.

Core Values

  • At By the Medium, we live by the mantra: Our Story. Our Art. Our Legacy. We believe art is how we own our narrative and define who we are. Through every medium, we are co-creating and building a legacy that reflects the global Black experience.

  • By the Medium is a love letter to Black people around the world. We contain many differences and yet, are the same.  Our platform centers our voices, celebrates our experiences, and speaks to our community.

  • The 2nd day of Kwanzaa is ‘Kujichagulia,’ meaning, to define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves. This follows the day ‘Umoja’ which means unity. At By the Medium we believe that as a community, we must define, create and speak for ourselves through our art.
